Electric Motors for Hydraulic PumpsThe power of a hydraulic system begins with the electric motor that turns the pump. A press, an injection machine, a lift, a mobile machine or a test rig — in all of these the hydraulic power unit (HPU) motor drives the hydraulic pump and produces the system’s pressure and flow. At HEM Motor we supply electric motors suited to hydraulic pump drives, ready for B5/V1 flange mounting, quiet and built for continuous duty, from stock with the manufacturer’s advantage. Motor-Pump Compatibility In a hydraulic power unit the motor is usually coupled to the pump directly, through a coupling or a bell housing. The motor’s mounting type and shaft dimensions must therefore match the pump exactly. On vertical tank-top units V1 mounting (shaft down) is common, while horizontal units mostly use a B5 flange. A wrong flange or shaft choice means extra adapter cost, alignment problems and early bearing failure. Sharing the pump connection type before ordering is the key to an accurate quotation. Continuous or Intermittent? Duty Type Some hydraulic applications run continuously (S1), others with frequent start-stop. On a continuously running HPU motor, good cooling and a stable winding temperature are essential; on an intermittently running press, heating from frequent starts and a suitable service factor come to the fore. A motor chosen for the wrong regime is either needlessly large and expensive or constantly stressed and fatigued early. Clarifying the duty type before ordering is decisive for price-performance. Quiet Operation: Noise and Vibration Hydraulic power units often work inside a workshop or within the machine body, close to people. Low noise and low vibration are therefore an important purchasing criterion. A well-balanced rotor, quality bearings and the right fan design are the basis of quiet running. Harsh Environments and Protection Class Hydraulic units may operate in dusty, oily and hot environments. IP55 is accepted as the standard protection class in these conditions; under heavier duty, IP65/IP66 options are preferred. Class F insulation provides safe operation at high temperature. Efficiency Class and Operating Cost On a hydraulic unit that runs most of the day, a high-efficiency (IE3/IE4) motor recovers the initial price difference over time through energy savings. In variable-load duties, pairing the motor with a variable frequency drive raises the saving further. HEM Motor Advantages B3 foot, B5 and V1 flange mounting options High mechanical strength with a cast iron body Choosing the Right Motor On a hydraulic pump drive, the right motor choice decides the system’s pressure, quietness and service life. Share the power, speed, mounting type (B5/V1/B3), shaft diameter and duty type, and we will settle the most suitable motor and the delivery time together. If you are looking for an electric motor for a press, injection machine, lift, test rig or any hydraulic power unit, you can contact HEM Motor. 2026 Technical and Product Catalog Power, speed, current, efficiency and torque tables for the IE3 · IE4 · IE5 series, plus B3 / B5 / B35 frame dimensions — 32 pages in one PDF.
